Englert gutters

Englert Inc. is one of the most influential names in seamless gutter — it manufactures both the aluminum coil that crews form on-site and the roll-forming gutter machines themselves, and it is the company behind LeafGuard, the one-piece covered gutter sold and installed nationwide. If your contractor runs an Englert machine off the back of the truck, the gutter on your house is being made in your driveway. This guide covers the Good / Better / Best tiers, what the finish warranties promise, and where seamless aluminum and a covered system each make sense.

What to know about Englert before signing a seamless-gutter quote

Englert is a long-established American manufacturer that sits at the center of the seamless-gutter trade. It produces the painted aluminum coil that contractors load into roll-forming machines, and it builds the machines — the portable gutter formers that turn a roll of coil into a continuous run of K-style or half-round gutter on the job site. Many independent seamless-gutter installers across the country run Englert equipment and coil.

Englert is also the manufacturer behind LeafGuard, a patented one-piece gutter-and-hood system formed and installed as a single unit so debris sheds off the curved top instead of collecting in the trough. LeafGuard is sold and installed through a dealer network rather than off a shelf, and it competes with bolt-on gutter guards by being an integrated gutter rather than an add-on.

For homeowners, Englert shows up in two ways: as the seamless aluminum gutter a local pro forms on-site from Englert coil, or as a full LeafGuard system. The seamless route is the value workhorse — a continuous run with joints only at corners. LeafGuard costs more but removes ongoing cleaning from the equation. The right answer depends on tree cover and how much you value never going up a ladder.

Product tiers

Each Englert product sits in one of these tiers. Prices are directional per linear foot of gutter (100 sqft) on material alone; installed cost is roughly 2–3× the material price depending on local labor and gutter complexity.

Good — standard-gauge seamless aluminum

Seamless aluminum K-style (standard gauge, Englert coil)

Continuous 5-inch K-style gutter roll-formed on-site from standard-gauge Englert aluminum coil. The mainstream seamless choice: no sectional joints except at corners and outlets, will not rust, and a baked-on finish in a deep color range. The most common professionally installed gutter on an average house.

Better — heavy-gauge & 6-inch seamless aluminum

Seamless aluminum K-style / half-round (heavy gauge, 6-inch)

Heavier-gauge Englert coil and a 6-inch high-capacity profile, plus half-round options. Heavier metal resists ladder dents and ice load better than standard gauge; the 6-inch trough with 3x4 downspouts moves far more water on big or steep roofs.

Best — LeafGuard one-piece covered gutter

LeafGuard seamless covered gutter system

Englert's patented one-piece gutter with an integrated curved hood, formed and installed as a single seamless unit so leaves and debris slide off rather than settle in. Sold and installed through a dealer network. The premium tier because it removes routine gutter cleaning rather than just carrying water.

What the warranty really covers

Englert's warranties split along two product lines: the seamless aluminum coil, and the LeafGuard covered system. They are structured differently, so it is worth knowing which one your quote refers to.

Seamless aluminum formed from Englert coil carries a limited lifetime warranty against material defects in the aluminum and a long, stated-term warranty on the baked-on paint finish covering excessive chalking, fading, peeling, or cracking beyond normal weathering. As with any seamless gutter, this is a material and finish warranty — it does not cover installation quality, which is on the contractor who formed and hung the gutter. Workmanship coverage, if any, comes from that installer.

LeafGuard, sold through a dealer network, layers a performance promise on top of the material warranty: dealers back the system with a clog-free or no-clog guarantee, meaning if the gutter clogs the dealer will clear it at no charge. Because LeafGuard is installed only by its own trained dealers, the install and the product warranty come from a single accountable source — an advantage over a bolt-on guard where the gutter and the guard may be different companies. Read the specific dealer's guarantee terms, since they govern the clog promise.

  • Limited lifetime on the aluminum
Englert coil carries a limited lifetime material warranty covering manufacturing defects in the aluminum for the original homeowner.
  • Long-term paint-finish warranty
The baked-on finish has its own multi-decade warranty against excessive chalk, fade, peel, or crack beyond normal weathering.
  • LeafGuard adds a clog-free guarantee
The LeafGuard covered system is backed by a no-clog performance guarantee — the dealer clears it free if it ever clogs, per dealer terms.
  • Workmanship comes from the installer
On seamless aluminum, installation quality is the contractor’s responsibility; ask any seamless installer what workmanship warranty they provide in writing.

What Englert does differently

Englert is unusual in that it makes the whole seamless-gutter toolchain — the coil, the color line, and the roll-forming machines themselves. That vertical position means a large share of the independent seamless installers in the country are forming gutter on Englert equipment, and the coil and finish are consistent across markets.

The second distinctive is LeafGuard. Rather than selling a guard you bolt onto an existing gutter, Englert engineered a single-piece gutter where the cover is part of the trough, formed in one continuous run. That eliminates the gap-and-screen failure modes of add-on guards and puts the gutter and the no-clog guarantee under one roof. It is a different product philosophy from every sectional or bolt-on competitor.

  • Makes the machines and the coil
Englert builds the portable roll-forming gutter machines and the aluminum coil — the backbone of much of the independent seamless trade.
  • On-site seamless forming
Gutter is formed to the exact length of each roof run in your driveway, so joints exist only at corners and downspout outlets.
  • LeafGuard one-piece covered system
A patented gutter with an integrated curved hood, formed as a single unit so debris sheds instead of collecting.
  • Deep architectural color line
Englert’s painted coil comes in a wide range of standard colors so the gutter can be matched to trim and roof.

Who Englert fits

Englert fits homeowners through two very different doors. The deciding factors are how much tree debris your roof catches and whether you want to eliminate gutter cleaning entirely or just buy a solid, fairly priced seamless system.

  • Homeowners replacing a full seamless system
Englert coil and a local installer running an Englert machine is the mainstream, well-supported way to get a continuous, rust-free aluminum gutter at a fair price.
  • Houses under heavy tree cover
LeafGuard’s one-piece hooded design and clog-free guarantee make the strongest case where leaves and pine needles would otherwise mean cleaning the gutters several times a year.
  • Homeowners who can no longer safely clean gutters
For anyone who wants to stop climbing ladders, LeafGuard removes routine cleaning as a maintenance task — that convenience is the product’s core value.

Where Englert may not fit

Englert is a strong choice in both product lines, but each has honest tradeoffs.

  • LeafGuard is a significant premium
A one-piece covered system costs well more than plain seamless aluminum. If your roof catches little debris, you may be paying for a clog solution you do not need.
  • LeafGuard replacement is all-or-nothing
Because the hood is integral to the gutter, a damaged section is replaced as a covered-gutter unit — you cannot simply swap a bare trough.
  • Covered gutters still need occasional attention
Hooded systems shed most debris but fine grit, shingle granules, and seeds can still accumulate; "no-clog" is a guarantee with terms, not a literal promise of zero maintenance.
  • Seamless workmanship varies by installer
Englert coil is consistent, but the gutter is only as good as the crew that forms, pitches, and hangs it. Vet the installer, not just the brand.

Englert FAQ

  • Is Englert the same company as LeafGuard?
Yes — LeafGuard is Englert's branded one-piece covered gutter system. Englert manufactures seamless aluminum coil and the roll-forming machines used to make gutter on-site, and it also engineered and sells LeafGuard, a patented gutter with an integrated curved hood. LeafGuard is installed through a dealer network. So an 'Englert' quote could mean either plain seamless aluminum formed from Englert coil or a full LeafGuard system — confirm which you are being quoted.
  • What does it mean that my gutter is "formed on-site"?
Seamless gutter is made in your driveway. The installer feeds a roll of aluminum coil into a portable roll-forming machine (often an Englert machine) that shapes it into a continuous K-style or half-round profile, cut to the exact length of each roof run. Because each run is a single piece, the only joints are at inside and outside corners and at downspout outlets — far fewer seams than sectional gutter, and far fewer places to eventually leak.
  • Is LeafGuard worth the extra cost?
It depends on your trees. LeafGuard's value is eliminating routine gutter cleaning — its curved hood sheds leaves and debris that would otherwise fill an open gutter. If your roof sits under heavy tree cover and you would otherwise clean gutters several times a year (or pay someone to), the premium can pay off in saved labor and avoided overflow damage. On a house with little overhanging foliage, plain seamless aluminum is the better value.
  • Does LeafGuard ever clog?
LeafGuard is backed by a no-clog or clog-free guarantee: if the system clogs, the dealer clears it at no charge under the terms of that guarantee. In practice hooded gutters shed leaves very effectively, but fine debris like shingle granules, seeds, and grit can still accumulate over years. Treat 'no-clog' as a guarantee with defined terms rather than a literal promise of zero maintenance forever — and read your dealer's specific guarantee language.
  • What gauge of aluminum does Englert use?
Englert produces painted aluminum coil in standard residential gauge (around .027 inch) and a heavier gauge (around .032 inch). Heavier-gauge coil resists denting from ladders and ice load and is worth specifying on long runs, snowy climates, or where the gutter is within easy reach. Ask your installer which gauge their quote is based on — it is a real durability difference at a modest price step.
  • Should I get 5-inch or 6-inch Englert gutter?
Five-inch K-style handles most average roofs. Step up to a 6-inch profile with 3x4 downspouts when you have large or steep roof planes, valleys that concentrate runoff into one gutter run, or a region with intense cloudbursts. The 6-inch trough moves substantially more water and resists overflow during heavy rain. Englert coil supports both, so the decision is about your roof, not product availability.
